John Chandler
I’ve spent most of my life in the Air Force, in the judiciary and also running a medical charity.
I was honoured to be asked to be a part of this important public education film by Andrea. I learned a lot about the immune system while making this film and I hope the film’s viewers do to. I am The Immune System.
Dr Louise van der Weyden
I am a Senior Staff Scientist at the Wellcome Sanger Institute. My research focus has been on cancer biology, using genomic technologies and mouse models to identify and characterise novel driver genes of tumourigenesis and metastasis.
More recently, I have become involved in comparative oncology, studying animals that spontaneously develop cancer, both as alternative models of human cancer and for the benefit of the animals themselves. I am The Lymph Node.
Dr Juan Pablo Narváez Gómez
I'm an ARISE MSCA Research Fellow at EMBL-EBI, focusing on the coordination and integration of biodiversity and genomics data.
Committed to science outreach, I've worked with Andrea since our time as editors of the Colombian Bulletin of Evolutionary Biology. Excited to join forces once again and driven by a shared passion for sparking curiosity and deepening knowledge of the phenomenon of life, I've lent my voice to animate the Tonsils - a controversial but important organ of the Immune System.
Dr Holly Robertson
I am Holly, aka "The Gut". I must admit it only seemed right to do the gut as Dolly Parton - it's working more than 9 to 5 though!
I am delighted to be part of the T Cell Show and am so proud of Andrea for all the work she has put into this amazing public engagement project. I am sure this will be a great education resource and it was so much fun to make!
Ben Foster
Hi, I'm Ben, a senior technician currently working for UCL. I've been in the research industry for around 9 years now and have worked in both the labs and the support areas, collecting samples, processing them and even doing some of the analysis.
I joined purely out of curiosity but I stayed because I was always learning something new and when Andrea suggested this to me I jumped right in! I am The Lungs.
Dr Victoria Harle
I am a molecular biologist and have worked in cancer research for around 12 years. I loved being a part of the T Cell Show and watching Andrea's vision come to life was a fantastic experience. I am The B Cell.
Dr Annie Speak
I am a principal investigator at Cambridge Institute of Therapeutic Immunology and Infectious Disease (CITIID) in the University of Cambridge. I am an immunologist and I enjoyed being the voice of the Bone in the T Cell Show.
Dr Andrea Manrique Rincón
I began this project with the aim of sharing my fascination with the immune system. Over the past 12 years, I have been studying immunology and have realized the need for more accessible information about the immune system.
My initial experience with cancer patients in Brazil showed me that they wanted to understand the immune system in a relaxed and enjoyable way. I hope that my efforts will serve as a good starting point towards achieving that goal. I voice The T Cell.
Neil Askham
I have worked in the research industry for 35 years. I worked at the Wellcome Sanger Institute and at Cambridge University. I loved being involved in this project working with amazing scientists. I am the voices of Mucus, Saliva and Tears.
Dr Haddijatou Mbye
I am Haddijatou, I work as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Cambridge. It was a funny experience being the voice of The Skin which is an amazing organ.
David Goulding
I spend much of my time searching for answers simply by looking at nature through a lens. At Sanger I explore the interactions between pathogens, friendly commensal bacteria and the host to observe how each side adapts during homeostasis, infection and disease states, using electron and laser confocal microscopes. At play I enjoy nature walks around the Wetlands on the Genome Campus, which has a wild stretch of healthy river to walk along and where you may see kingfishers and otters if you are lucky. Walking is very healthy for the spleen (which I played), lymphatic and immune system which protects you from infection and illness!
Joe Gaughan
I work in the diagnostics and genomics field where I head up the European team. I have 3 passports - 2 x UK and 1 x EU, with the EU one now proving much more valuable.
I haven't acted since a nativity play at St. Joseph's in Faifley circa 1976 so doing a voice over for The Thymus seemed a logical next step in my acting career - I hope to play many more elements of the immune system as my career develops!
